I hear your protests. The internet is full of angry tech enthusiasts bashing Microsoft for forcing their new web browser onto Windows users. Obviously, MS Edge is inferior to Google's flagship... Or is it? Well, you'd be surprised.

Here are a few reasons why you should definitely switch browsers:

Efficiency & System Usage

This was one of the most prominent flaws of Google Chrome. It's a mega resource hog. Even with no other applications open, Chrome somehow manages to overload and overheat older Macs, with only a few tabs running. You just cannot afford to use such a power-hungry web browser on smaller or older laptops if you have tabs in 2 digit numbers open. Well, is Edge any better? Tons. Compared to Chrome's 3.6 GB of memory usage, Edge's 390 MB is just tiny. Not just numbers, but you can actually feel the difference when using either of these browsers in a work scenario, with a couple of applications running alongside.

Security and Privacy

There is no doubt that this is an area Microsoft has targeted as a result of Google’s endless struggle with balancing privacy against its need for user data. Chrome's privacy and security settings are quite cryptic to the everyday user. However, Microsoft could not have been more straightforward in presenting the security options right at the top of the settings, all clearly explaining their use. There are three modes, basic, balanced, and strict. And, it works. Restricted mode is so powerful and effective, with a few sites even assuming it as an adblocker. So, for the privacy paranoid, here is your pick.

Extra Features

Collections

Edge Collections lets you group similar web pages and name them. You can easily access those groups by clicking on a collection, bringing you back to a particular working state quickly and easily.

Editor

Editor is Microsoft’s built-in answer to writing assistants like Grammarly. Editor uses artificial intelligence to keep your writing accurate and stylish and promises to work well for anyone not willing to shell out cash for a different add-on.

Read Aloud

Edge also offers a Read Aloud feature that will read everything on a webpage in a pleasant voice. It’s a great accessibility feature that makes it possible for those with limited vision to access written words.

So I assume you are rushing off to the app store to download the latest release. Yeah, I have some amazing mind-reading powers. Cool right? Anyways, here are the links to download your fresh copy of Edge by Microsoft.

Windows: It comes pre-installed. Just click the search icon on the taskbar and search for Edge.

macOS (Intel): Click here

macOS (Apple Silicon): Click here

Android: Click here
