Yes! The long-awaited, super hyped, and delayed iPhone 12 series has finally, finally arrived. I mean announced, it will be available to buy next week probably.
Yeah anyway, let's talk about what you guys actually came for. What's new, My opinion on design, specs, and other stuff, and Should you buy it. And a quick disclaimer, if you had come here to read about the new iPhone 12 and 12 mini, I will just be doing a quick overview of them and be focusing on the Pro models. To learn more about the more popular 12 series, check out my buddy, Shravanth's post on thewalksoflife.in
What's new
The first new thing about the iPhones are 5G support. The feature was the first to be leaked and also the most important for them. This means you'll be able to connect to next-gen internet networks from your iPhone and it allows you to enjoy super-fast download and browsing speeds on your phone.

Whew....that's faster than my computer's ethernet
Another new element is Smart Data mode that assesses whether you need 5G speeds and switches you back to 4G if it doesn't think you need them. If that's the case, your phone can then save battery by not connecting to the 5G network. Nice.
Okay so next up is the display. The new apple flagships are announced to have Super Retina XDR displays with 6.7 and 6.1-inch displays. These awesome new displays are then covered with a new material that they call the Ceramic Shield, and they say that it 'kicks glass', so I am guessing that's not glass. They say that this material is tougher than the last generation. They have a whole page telling how it's made, etc, etc. I will link it below, so you can read that after reading this article.
Next up, colors. The new Pro models are going to be available in four finishes, silver, space grey, gold, and a new navy blue that they have replaced green with. The official names are: Pacific Blue, Gold, Silver, and Graphite. As before, the back of the phone is covered in frosted, matte finish glass and surrounded with metallic, shiny stainless steel. But this time, as predicted by many, the sides are not curved and have shard edges, kind of like the new iPad Air and iPad Pro, and of course, the iPhone 4.

Next up, the new A14 Bionic. The A14 Bionic is the first 5-nanometre chip in the industry, with advanced components literally atoms wide. Forty percent more transistors rev up speeds while increasing efficiency for great battery life. And a new ISP powers Dolby Vision recording — something no pro movie camera, let alone any other phone, can do. Yeah I'll have to admit that's the 5nm architecture is pretty impressive

And the new fourth camera is the LiDAR sensor which was first seen on the 2020 iPad Pro and was long speculated that it would arrive to the iPhones. This sensor shoots light and using data from the reflected light, gets a 3D image of the surroundings. So it can create a depth map of whatever space you’re in. Because it’s ultra-fast and accurate, AR apps can now transform a room into a realistic rainforest or show you how a new sneaker will fit. The wide main camera and the ultrawide can take photos in night mode and the LiDAR sensor allows night mode portraits. So that is something very exciting to try out. Upgrades include a 47% larger main sensor and a 65-millimeter telephoto camera lets you zoom in tighter on portraits.
Also new is the new ProRAW mode. ProRAW gives you all the standard RAW information, along with the Apple image pipeline data. They say that you can get a head start on editing, with noise reduction and multi-frame exposure adjustments already in place — and have more time to tweak color and white balance.
New accessories include the MagSafe case and wallet. You can put on the case, which has a magnet inside of it. So this allows Snap-on a magnetic case, wallet, or both. And get faster wireless charging.
My opinion
You see, when the iPhone 10 was launched, it was revolutionary. Most of the stuff in it was new. But then the follow-up, the XS was launched. It was exactly the same phone as the previous-gen with a new color and a slightly faster chip. And then last year's 11 Pro was a similar story to the iPhone 10 with revolutionary features. It had a better display, better cameras, a new body, and many more. The iPhone 12 is similar. I am quite skeptical, but I think this update is not as bad as the XS update. Though most of the parts are handed down from last-gen, like the display and ultrawide camera. The ceramic screen and the squared edges and 5G support make it a good buy.
So I think, if you had wanted to upgrade from X or XS, it's a go-to, but if you had bought an 11 Pro only last year, I think it's not worth it, with 5G not so widespread yet. They will come up with newer tech and better specs next year, and it would be better to upgrade at that time. In the end, this is my view and my opinion.
